2012: A Death Odyssey

Okay so maybe I'm the simplest person on the planet, but some crazies out there are saying 2012 will see our final days of Earth. HA! I've never really paid much attention to the theories... until now! So what gives? I guess the Mayan calendar ends on December 21st, 2021, bringing an end of a 5,126-year era. So that's kind of their ancient "doomsday" theory. Historians say it's silly to worry about it, because the calendar was disregarded by the Spanish colonization. Plus, those crazy Mayans actually celebrated at the end of each era. Some even say the Dutch are prepping for the worst. Uh oh! Don't tell any Americans! USA Today says part of the 2012 mystique stems from the stars. On the winter solstice in 2012, the sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in about 26,000 years. This means that "whatever energy typically streams to Earth from the center of the Milky Way will indeed be disrupted on 12/21/12 at 11:11 p.m. Universal Time." NASA says we're due for a new solar cycle soon because a knot of magnetism popped over the sun's eastern limb in December '07. It goes on to say, "many forecasters believe Solar Cycle 24 will be big and intense. Peaking in 2011 or 2012, the cycle to come could have significant impacts on telecommunications, air traffic, power grids and GPS systems. (And don't forget the Northern Lights!) In this age of satellites and cell phones, the next solar cycle could make itself felt as never before." Hmmmm! Guess we'll have to wait for the movie. "2012" comes out in July 2009, starring John Cusack. Yep, we look fear in the face by cashing in! Gosh I hope I'm not working in TV if this is going to be the next "Y2k."

According to my digestive system and the metal plate in my head...i'm lookin at August 15, 2010 at exactly 3:17:23 pm.
